The title of this story isn’t a typo. Some products out there exist that allow you to print big documents on less paper, while others support printing with less ink to save money.
A couple of services exist that allow you to save paper and ink when printing office documents and web pages. PrintEco is a recent company that specializes in office printing, and which enables people to print the same content volume on less pages. GreenPrint exists for SOHO users as well as for enterprises.
Both solution providers deliver software to print less of more, as well as analysis of printing habits, so you can adjust printing behavior.
In fact, these service providers have something in common with what exists for a long time in the world of offset and package printing: software that allows printers to save on ink. Alwan Color is one of those companies that has a full range of applications to save on expensive inks. In the case of offset printers and package printers, the aim is of course not to be eco-friendly (well, not the most important target, anyway) but to save money and improve the profit margin.
What Alwan Color does for printing presses, EFI’s ColorProof XF can do for photographers and proofers who want to use inkjets for printing photographic prints or proofs. EFI’s product has an ink optimization module that needs a bit more experimenting than Alwan Color’s, but which can save a lot of ink too.
